The LaunchPad PPA system had no issues building it (build log linked above).
Same with the Debian build server. I'm not sure why it would have trouble with
finding the distutils.core module when you try and build the package. I think
distutils is built into Python. On my system,
I thought it was a debian requirement that the changelog be in version
sorted order...

So, leaking memory is when the memory is never released during the
lifetime of the process. I think what you are seeing here is rather a
high usage of memory when search results are displayed.
Can you start a search and then execute the following in a terminal
