I found that there was a file /etc/group.lock. After deleting it, it
worked. So this is possibly a bug in adduser.

I'm running tests and launch rather large numbers of instances on a UEC
running with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. I discovered that instances regularly
fail to start and it seems to be that they never get a network address
assigned. In the cc.log I discovered the following entries:

I've had som emore experience with this, and it is definitely true that running
ssh-keyscan host1 host2 host3 host4
can end up giving output only for a small number of hosts because a single host
fails.
During one case where this was failing, i did (manually)
$ ssh-keyscan -t rsa,dsa
Again if you are having problems can you install the samba-dbg package
and reproduce it again and attach the information to this bug report so
we can narrow it down?
