If this is a live cd desktop, do we want to install hardware drivers? I
think those users experienced enough to want hardware drivers are
experienced enough to open the menu, System, Additional Drivers, and
install them.

I insert a CDRW and accept the default Open CD/DVD Creator screen by
clicking ok. I drag/drop a text file successfully from the desktop to
the CD/DVD Creator - File Browser. I double click on the test file on
the CDRW and it opens in gedit as
