I had seen this recently on a lucid instance, that caused a publish failure
from the daily build scripts.
That occurred on a m1.large of:

D J, I would agree with you that -D should be in the default args for
squid. I'm not sure why it was removed, but this counts as a regression
as in karmic -D would allow squid to start without a valid network
connection.

of lastb, but confirmed that in natty btmp is not updated with bad login

In my experience in 2008-2009, just because networking is up on an EC2
instance does not mean that 169.254.169.254 is going to accept
connections and requests for meta-data and user-data. You need to wait
for this to become available. I had code to do this in Ubuntu AMIs I

During a maverick-natty upgrade I got a debconf prompt about having to
manually restart gdm. During the upgrade gdm was not running. This is a
pretty unusual situation so not a big deal and mostly cosmetic (and the
upgrade did not fail or anything).

I add a task for pam itself, the debconf handling is outside of update-
managers control, but maybe Steve has a good idea how to improve the
experience for this.

Yes, it is reproducible. Go to places- connect to server, and when its
box comes up, select Custom Location for Service type. Add whatever URI
in location, and click on Connect. I get the same error i told you about
every time.

Where are you getting 3GB from? Running du -bchs on /rofs (the read-only
copy of the live filesystem contents) reports 1.8 GB.
