Additional note: Switching to the Blank screensaver did not make a
difference, though it seems to be correlated to having the lid of my
laptop closed for approx 20 minutes, and it is more noticable if I have
things running onscreen when it happens.

Similar thing happens to me. I've got focus follows mouse set, though,
so clicking anywhere to restore things is out of the question. I can
only think of killing the gnome session to recover from this at the
moment; that makes it a pretty big bug to me.

I confirm this issue. For clarity, the issue is that when launching e.g.
a text document, it gets a separate icon (a plain white document),
rather than being grouped with the standard blue LibreOffice icon.

Only one libreoffice process is running, though:
