VLC sets the mouse cursor to be invisible if the pointer has not moved
for a short while. There are no cursor changes by VLC.
I am not able to reproduce this issue with KWin, so I suspect it is a
bug in your window manager (not expanding the VLC window to full screen

The situation with the brightness control is a complete mess at the moment and
it's getting very annoying.
Unfortunately, I only have a Samsung NC10 and the brightness control here is
working out-of-the-box, with no need to use the samsung-backlight kernel

ok, my workaround described in #5 works without removing the power

I have a clean vanilla install. Additional driver current recommended
installed. nVidia 8600GT.
I get a plain purple screen for most of the boot then a very brief
appearance of the normal plymouth logo at the correct resolution.
Shutdown also shows the correct resolution plymouth.

It's probably due to DejaVu Sans being prepended at the top of the prepend
list. Maybe that can be fixed. IMO it is not needed there; and maybe prepend
shouldn't be used.

Does it still happen if you select 'ALSA' as audio output in VLC preferences?

I bought a USB Parallel Printer Cable and had the printer work
immediately. Of course, that did not really solve the problem reported
above.
