I discovered something interesting. This dead areadoes not occur when
using the application in full screen (F11), but when I go back from full
screen the dead area is still there. I tested this on both Firefox and
GIMP. Perhaps it is related to Compiz?

Currently dh_scour only optimizes .svg files even though scour supports
.svgz.
I'm attaching a patch that implements this.
I had to change the temporary filename as scour detects if the file is
compressed by looking at the file extension.
