GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash nomodeset to /etc/default/grub.
(however, then I lose all desktop effects, ability to rotate screen, and no

Had downloaded Braid yesterday from humble bundle 3. the game is in a .bin file

This is not solely a problem with laptops. I see the same behavior on an
lvm encrypted partition with separate raid1 /boot partition with a fresh
install of natty. Natty was installed via i386 x64 alt disc in expert
mode on a SuperMicro 7046T-H6R SuperServer with an ATI 5870 card.

How can you close valid reports? If this is fixed, please reference the exact
bug fix, otherwise open this ... I hate this recent closing policy, where more
and more valid reports - even confirmed one - are just closed, because nobody
cares anymore!

This issue appears to be fixed in the Natty 2.6.38-10-generic kernel.
Commenting out the pcspkr line in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf (and
rebooting) is enough to enable the speaker, without needing the extra
rmmod+modprobe.

I've found that using alt-tab when the screen blanks causes it to appear
again
