This seems to have been a physical problem with the RAM. It is a six-
core AMD system with 4 sticks of 4 GB RAM, specced to 1600 MHz.
Apprarently the mainboard doesn't overvolt the RAM to its needed 1.65V
when running at 1600MHz (even though the BIOS actually asks whether it

this particular bug is fixed, there is one issue that i found while
trying to reproduce this bug which I reported as bug 852917

Unity launcher gets cluttered when having multiple partitions and/or
external
The bug happens most of the time for me too, on one of my Ubuntu
machines, even with all current updates. At random times it works
normally, though.
This is a blot on Ubuntu's front door. Needs to be fixed.

I have a lot of nikon .nef raw files that I'd like thumbnailed. This
worked perfectly in natty. So, I install gnome-raw-thumbnailer. I see
it set up the correct gconf entries, and yet, no thumbnails.
Running it by hand revealed that it also doesn't return anything nor
