Ok, I think I have solved it: just removed unity-lens-applications
(apparently it was still there and asking for ubuntu-desktop even if I

I could verify the issue under 11.10. Loading MenuBug.sav results in
permanent popping up of the menu, whereas other saves function as
expected.
