I was able to restore the system this way:
1. Booted with a previous kernel (3.0.x) which gave me back a mouse and the
terminals
2. Switched to a terminal ALT+CTRL+F1
3. Configured the network card (both wireless and wired cards where
unconfigured)
3. sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade
Update. As it seems that my wordpress instance does not have the 'wp_'
prefix on most of the database tables, it was 3 new lines in the updated
/etc/wordpress/wp-config.php that caused the problem:

}

Still happening in Precise, fresh install. I have even copied the
wallpapers in /usr/share/backgrounds and applied the permission that
other files there have but still they don't appear at login or in System
Settings-Apperance. The only wallpapers that work are the default ones.

I have the same problem with 12.04 running on Lenovo Ideacentre K330.
Also, the Logitech IM/Connect Quickcam does not work properly the Cheese
app seems to lock up, and the system cannot capture sound with the
built-in mike. Works perfectly in Windows 7, of course.

It's 100% reproduceable on released 12.04 now. I didn't know it was

The button for 'All' in Filtering Menu is too small to fit for non-
European languages.
For example, All is 3 bytes, and in Korean, this word is 모두, which is 4
bytes.
This causes the button to only show '모' and this is really
irritating.

Now each time I click the workspace switcher button the desktop freezes
in 12.04 Precise. Sometimes the spreaded desktops show up all white
before freezes. Other than that everything else works fine.
