handle the playing.
Is it really random or maybe related to some other application playing a sound

distros, when unity, the new interface (if we can really call it that

There is two soundcards in your computer, once is the realtek ALC889 and
the other is the Nvidia MCP77/78 HDMI for the digital out put. I to am

I am running Kubuntu 12.04 on a Lenovo X220 with integrated Intel
graphics and a Core i5 processor, 8 GB of RAM.
After upgrading to 12.04 my system has experience a hard freeze on 3

Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
kernel version where you were not having this particular problem? This
will help determine if the problem you are seeing is the result of the
introduction of a regression, and when this regression was introduced.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.4kernel[1] (Not a kernel in the daily directory). Once you've tested
the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag(Only
that
I was able to fix this by installing Realtek's Linux driver (3.0) at the bottom
of this page:
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1PNid=24PFid=24Level=4Conn=3DownTypeID=3GetDown=false
You have to tar -jxvf the bz2 file it downloads and run the ./install script,
then
you can send this bug to upstream now
