Yes, I do have an Optimus notebook. I use Intel videocard, while NVIDIA
is just turned off for the most of the time (I use Bumblebee for
switching). I don't really thinks it's related.

I had this same bug with a plantronics usb headset. I followed the
suggestions in comments 4 and 6 and they successfully removed the S/PDIF
listing. For me the output of cat /proc/asound/cards was Plantronics
USB Headset.

It turned out (here at least) that adding the nfsvers=3 parameter in the
etc/fstab for the nfs mounts
restored the connectivity.
Prior to the upgrade to 12.04 the nfsvers parameter had not been needed, but
with the upgrade , the nfsversion parameter seems to make all the difference.

and df works if you ssh login as another user and do a df. The problem I
am seeing is when no one is logged in and /var/lib/lightdm/.gvfs is

I second that we have the old behavior also available. It had been one
of my favorite features of Unity. It is very useful when there's
multiple gedit or terminal windows open, in which case the windows are
not very distinguishable in a spread.

I've had a similar problem but not quite identical.
In my case, the area with the name and icons (from the envelope to the
gear) were duplicated, but only part of the time, depending on the mouse
entering/leaving the top panel area, plus other details.
I think this happened when using unity-2D
well, it's not a bug in pam-auth-update either, that character is not
present in the packaged version of pam-auth-update.
I think you need to run 'sudo apt-get install --reinstall libpam-
runtime' to get pam-auth-update reinstalled, because it appears to be
corrupted on disk for you.

I have the same problem, and see this bug is still waiting for a full
backtrace. When I'm using the computer remotly by SSH (commandline) everything
is working fine.
When I am using X (unity/compiz or gnome), the desktop crashes randomly when I
