yep, setting Pidging audio method to ALSA is a reliable workaround for
this problem

The Plymouth splash screen starts too late to cover the terminal text at
logout and shutdown.
The bug is related to Lightdm, because Mdm do not have this issue or at
least the issue is not as far out.
- If you remove Lightdm from /etc/init/plymouth-stop.conf
Behavior still exists in precise.
Additionally as it's not seen as an active window, it's open windows do not
appear in the application switcher.
Compiz is the current active window manager, I have not yet tested other de/wm
configurations.
I also experience Bug #998198 which may have some
/usr/sbin/lightdm-session is a script executed with /bin/sh (see shebang line
#!/bin/sh).
It sources $HOME/.profile (and some others), not $HOME/.bash_profile.
So things specific to bash and not in sh are not recognized, for example:

must be written:

Thanks for the updated traces! This was indeed very helpful. This
apparently happens if the data upload is either very slow, or gets
interrupted due to network hangs. I believe I fixed this now in trunk.
