I can confirm that the auto configuration items in
/etc/network/interfaces cause the symptoms described here.
After commenting out all of the auto items in /etc/network/interfaces
except for auto lo, NetworkManager is starting again automatically.

belief that weston has no ability to read a centralized config file (no

finally got a libreoffice crash, reported as bug #1041865
it is on Quantal i386 logged as gnome-classic (unity purged no ppa
around). I have libreoffice-gtk installed, as removing it is not a
solution (menu icons unusable) but seems related with this issue.

Problem affected me as well. Hardware is a Dell Inspiron with Radeon HD
6450. Anyway, disabling plymouth in Grub does work for me. So no more
freezes after this, until now.

I just reinstalled the netbook with Precise, because wifi did not work any more
after the ndiswrapper test (maybe I did something wrong in the uninstall

I see this issue with Mozilla Thunderbird 14.0 on a recently re-installed
Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on a Compaq V2414 laptop with AMD Turion64 processor and 2GB
of RAM. The uninterruptible state of TB is fairly frequent, though this does
not prevent me from working in parallel with other applications.

When I installed Muon-git from PPA it started notify about updates. Now,
when Muon 1.4 released and I installed it there is no notifications
again ! I came back to Muon 1.3.1 but no notifications too ! The one

I finally seetled to install the 3.4.0 kernel and the problem is solved,
but I'm not so keen to use a non-official kernel. I hope there are no
security risks.

I also noticed this problem with latest SVN build (r162623) on Ubuntu
12.04. LLVMgold.so was not linked to libLTO.so, which caused problems
when using it:
/usr/bin/ld: error: /opt/clang/bin/../lib/LLVMgold.so: could not
load plugin library: /opt/clang/bin/../lib/LLVMgold.so: undefined
symbol:
This bug is still present in 12.04 as of August 26th 2012.

I installed it manually and reproduced the problem. Here's the output from the

Oh, I missed part of your comment. You can check the output of running
/usr/lib/update-notifier/apt-check to see if it's a bug with the
update-notifier-common package. If it's not that, then the update daemon
isn't getting notification when the update files change, and this would
be a kernel bug.
