I updated my BIOS to A13 and I can confirm that the bug still exists in
Ubuntu 12.04 i386 and it produces the same problems.
One of the threads suggested that this issue was repaired in Linux Mint
Debian, so I installed it for testing, but it produces the same
symptoms.

killing those two processes above tends to shut the error message but
not resolving the cause.
today i've successfuly transferred (without any interruption) large
files onto NAS, over the same wi-fi, but via Synology's web-based DSM
GUI. so that means that NAS and wi-fi cannot be blamed. however

For GPU lockup bugs with Intel graphics, you need to collect the output
of 'dmesg' and your /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state file. Both
of these must be collected while the machine is locked up (e.g. by
sshing into the sick machine over ethernet). See
alsa-info is not present on 12.04 upgrated or fresh install.

OK - I can confirm that none of those 3 kernels contain the ar5523
driver, however, this does help to fix something else in the works,
which I mentioned earlier - ndiswrapper. The last of those 3 kernels
which 1.58~rc1 builds in successfully is 3.8.0-030800rc3-generic. At
rc4, it busts :) We
It fails to compile my NVIDIA driver when installing, so I'm a bit
afraid to try it out. Any other way I can test this? Or isn't this error
bad?

*not* split the audit package into an audit daemon with networking
support and another without. Instead, we've decided to disable network
listener support in the existing auditd binary package.

auto.master, restarting autofs while the master was rebooting (and I was
