Is it acpi-support that calls xscreensaver-command on a standard
installation of Xubuntu 12.10?
I have no idea. I would have expected it to be xfce4-power-manager,
given that acpi-support was extended to recognize said program in
response to bug #425155; but xfce4-power-manager appears to no
grub 1.x (the version of grub that uses menu.lst) is deprecated. In all
possible cases, recent versions of Ubuntu will install grub2 instead.
No further feature development should be expected for the old update-
grub.

I have the same issue on a gentoo system. Tried nvidia drivers 310 and 313 -
the issue is not affected.
Switching virtual terminals resolves the issue for that login session.
What was the fix in Ubuntu for this issue?
