When I run lsmod both R8712u and R8169 are loaded.
There is a workaround for this problem.
I added
SUSPEND_MODULES=r8712u

Happened with Ubuntu 13.04. Very shortly thereafter (but maybe
unrelated?) my entire window manager (default Unity) died and wouldn't
restart.

Another vote for this as a critical accessibility issue. I've been
trying to get more physically disabled people like myself using Linux as
the price is excellent and it can be a start for job-training that can
lead to gainful employment. This is a small fix that would mean the
difference
