I encountered this, after having installed Sun JDK for an esoteric
purpose.
Turns out I had somehow managed to install the headless (i.e. non-GUI)
version of OpenJDK.
To fix:
$ sudo apt-get remove openjdk-7-jre-headless
$ sudo apt-get install openjdk-7-jdk
That made everything lovely for me.

I can confirm the same problem on a ThinkPad X220i. Most of the time the

in my case it seems that variety is the problem. Everytime the desktop
background is changed nautilus increases his RAM usage by ca. 300 MB which
seems to be the default usage for one nautilus instance.
I used gnome-tweak-tool to disable the option, that nautilus manages my desktop

I was messing about with getting a raring machine up, and just to note:
I've tested that the package installs, runs, and works to connect to and play
online with on a current Ubuntu Raring i386 LiveCD, based on builds from a
cowbuilder-dist raring i386.

When you install the firewall package(firestarter) and after running it it will
show you an error message say's that the program can't open the log system.
You can fix it manually by editing 50-default.conf in the cource
/etc/rsyslog.d/50-default.conf and change few lines.
