@Vistaus: the issue dealt with in this bug report is the following:
bcmwl kernel module failed to build. The module doesn't fail to build
against Linux 3.9 any more. If you're experiencing a different issue,

I forgot to mention, I have this problem with the unity desktop. The
mouse behaves normally when I close all windows using alt+f4. The
problem reappears as soon as I open any application.
