I just ran into similar issue where using mawk (awk alternative) to
format cksum values. Any value larger than 2G is truncated at 2G
(2147483647). This is the same number Thomas is getting. Seems like mawk
was built using older memory limitations?

Actually, continue the reverse bisect to find the commit in v3.9-rc1
that fixed this.
@Anton, can you test v3.9-rc1 to confirm you are seeing the same issue:

This kernel version should not exhibit the bug.

Three years after the original post, using now xubuntu 13.04 Raring and a SATA

Apparently this error is triggered by the launch of clementine media
player.
To get this bug the only steps I am following are:
1) Log into gnome
2) Launch clementine
3) Play music
The 3rd step is where the complete gnome-shell crashes.

The issue with my screen flashing got so bad I had to downgrade back to
12.10 and the 3.5 kernel. I'm still having issues with the external
monitor switching configurations (resolution, position, and mirror-
displays switches every several minutes).
