The problem was still reproducible for me on KDE 4.10.2 through 4.10.5
on openSUSE 12.3. However, yesterday I upgraded to KDE 4.11.1 and now
the display settings are (eventually) correctly applied on login.
However, the process is a bit annoying in that immediately after logging

The volume indicator used to have a function that allowed to change the
volume using the mousewheel by simply hovering over the indicator.
Rolling the wheel DOWN reduced the volume and vice versa.
Starting with saucy, this function is gone. I actually have to click on

@Thomas, I use KDE right now (because I'm on Ubuntu 13.10 so my usual DE
won't work). Otherwise I use Pantheon (from the elementary OS project).
Sometimes I also use Gnome Classic, XFCE, and Enlightenment from time to
time.

I guess that in newest versions of kernels bug with LED indicator will
be fixed. I also think that touchpad toggler is not a kernel bug, so we
have one problem with WiFi switcher(on/off)

Oookay, I wish I'd looked at this earlier: the two wallpapers that were
picked as abstract illustrations this cycle don't quite work in this
space, so we're in a bit of a pickle :)

i'm new with linux. i've got a nvidia gtx 260 and a dvi adaptar to
connect with hdmi to my amplifier. this works perfectly on windows but
not with linux. also i tried an coax cable to connect the desktop with
the amplifier but also no sound. i tried a few solutions like
