System updates are applied from the recovery environment and certainly
does call sync at that point.
As for the rest of the system, I don't think we should try to hack
around this. Our standard shutdown sequence is supposed to be clever
enough to unmount everything and call sync before rebooting.

Hm, weird, I set volume in pacmd and ever since, the settings are
retained. However, before I always started recording, realized the
microphone was muted and turned the volume up. No idea why it was

Since an update on Sunday, 22nd my Unity launcher is empty. All the
categories: Home, Apps, Files, ... except for the Social lens/scope.
I tried removing the caches under ~/.cache, reset zeitgeist, etc. There
is nothing I can do about it. When I switch to a guest session, it'
