I have removed the newer kernels (using sudo apt-get remove) and tested
with the old kernel 3.5.0-31, the card still does not work. May not be a
kernel bug?
I have also tested the same CF card on another machine running much
older Ubuntu version. The card still works there.

since the LED only lights in Windows 8 after installing the requiered drivers.

I am facing the same issue on my Acer Aspire 573g with Kubuntu 13.10.
I've upgraded my bios to the actual offical supported Acer bios version
2.22. The problem remains, after booting the screen stays black until I
use the FN-Keys raise the screen brightnes.

I'm having the same problem when PXE-booting nodes in the latest 13.04
release of MAAS (after following the install instructions.) I can
confirm that changing all references of 'mirror' to 'choose-mirror' in
the file /usr/share/maas/preseeds/generic solves the problem. This needs
to be fixed.

part of the Removable Media system settings panel (Kubuntu) and are being
