I would probably have to locate the change that fixed the issue in the
upstream source and apply a patch to the version allready in saucy. As a
rule new versions aren't introduced into released versions of Ubuntu.

I think this bug affects me too. In my case, my HP Color Laserjet 1600 printer
is connected to a QNAP T-212 NAS server through USB connection. It prints from
windows clients and my other linux clients (Ubuntu 12.04). I upgraded one

resolution change, the resolution change happens but the Unity stuff
still appears on screen and can be interacted with.
More than that, it appears that somehow I get a big window that is
zoomed in on the game.

Yes, it's probably unity-related. At least I can not recreate this issue
with Gnome shell on Debian. Did you try with a clean config
(delete/rename/move the ~/.config/Transmission\ Remote\ Gui/ folder?
Also could you please try checking and/or unchecking the minimize to
tray option?
