guess I had some other changes around which broke it. However, I confirm

Muting sound indicator in Unity Greeter does not mute so
It was a shortcut created by opening settings -> sound ages ago and
right clicking on the launcher and using "lock to launcher". I ended up
removing the shortcut and recreating it. I presumed the binary name used
by the new settings system was different from the old one, causing it
not to launch p
The bug is that the file exists!
It is copied into place by the biuld process, and is "foreign" to the installed
OS.
It should be removed by the build process.

Joseph Salisbury, after reporting this bug I tried changing some
settings in alsamixer but it didn't seem to fix the issue. Then, after
a reboot it started working although I didn't notice straight away so
I'm not exactly sure what has made it work. This also happened on 13.10

It just happened when conky weather notification appear with an x to
close it. I clicked on the x and got the error. I seem to get it about
every day.
