After some investigation I found out that it's QIcon that just doesn't
support non-square icons... Which kind-a makes sense since the theme
.index files don't allow it either.

Unable to write to history log. Seems to be the same problem as bug
32696 which was marked as fixed back in 2006. But, it happens to me too
after straight postgress installation on an Ubuntu 14.04 Amazon EC2
instance.
Steps taken to install:
Stand up EC2 instance

I got my machine too boot again:
* I Used the Super Grub Disk to boot into the existing installation on my laptop
* I checked /etc/mtab to see which device was mounted (in my case /dev/sda)
* then I ran sudo grub-install --boot-directory=/boot /dev/sda

This is an interesting point, we should certainly pull in phablet-tools
and uuntu-device-flash if we are not
