I absolutly agree to the above. This error was very hard so solve. For a
new ubuntu / linux user unable to solve and often the first try is of
course the only try. This is sad because in most cases (except above)
ubuntu works like a charm.

Have you tried swtiching to other virtual terminals? I believe I was
experiencing the same issue, only to find that the display was stuck on
vt7 for some reason, but there were in fact logins waiting on vts 1-6.
Adding text to the kernel command line seems to mitigate this issue in

continue to write. So, after a while, Chrome loads, steal the focus and

I expected a sucessfull filesystem check of the fat32-partition.

With 14.04, I've found that oem-config no longer prompts end users for
their final configuration details. In fact, the system reboots abruptly
and no longer has the oem user account.

When one inputs text inside a box, the box does not fit to size. Hence,
this is unreproducible.
