Thanks, but apparently it's not working. I suspect this is a deep issue
somewhre in packaging, ie work for a packaging wizard. I can wait; i'm
building in an emulator (very slow) as a workaround.

Made a fresh Utopic installation from mini.iso (ext4, upstart used)
The system is updated/upgraded via synaptic, but update-notifier still pop up
