The UEFI standard states that BOOT\BOOTX64.EFI is only for use on
removable media and that an OS installing to an internal disk is
supposed to put its boot loader in its own directory, and the firmware
must boot said loader when instructed to via EFI variables.

Regarding #51: in today's 14.10 daily I was affected by the same
problem. I copied /usr/lib/syslinux/gfxboot.c32 from my 14.04 system
into the usb /syslinux and it now boots fine.
This is 14.10 Ubuntu 64. The boot disk was created on a 14.04 Ubuntu 64
system, up to date, with usb-creator-gtk.
Bug is highly important!
Many Ubuntu users need updates!
Also there is new version in ubuntu:

This is quite annoying. I can't see any of the numbers properly. For
example in this attached file you can see a window with number 2085, but
if I select it and copypaste to gedit, the number shows up as 2085695.

I had exactly the same problem with an nvidia-prime notebook (Lenovo
Flex 2) and solved it exactly as you (Yafu) did - thanks for digging!
I really hope that this will be a dependancy before 14-10 is
