I've changed the status of this old bug to Fix Released because I can't
reproduce it in the current version of Firefox (34.0). It was probably
unknowingly fixed at some point during the two years since it was
reported on Firefox 16.0 and 17.0. A lot of code changes in two years.

AFAIK, there are currently two ways to open a new tab with a typed URL using
keyboard shortcuts:
"Ctrl-T" which is the equivalent of clicking the new tab icon, and "Alt-Enter"

I was having this problem with plymouth-upstart-bridge respawning repeatedly
during boot. Machine still came up, but boot seemed to be delayed.
