Just to sum up with what has already been said.
parted creates the 'p1' block device, via libparted (see dm_add_partition() in
arch/linux.c, IIRC)
kpartx creates the '-part1' block device (see /lib/udev/rules.d/*-kpartx.rules).
So after further review this patch does not make sense upstream, so I
never submitted it *(see SRU template).
Subscribing sponsors again to see if we want to Ubuntu Sauce patch this
for trusty.

Network is not always recognised. After time or when I move from a wifi to
