There is a manual test app included with qtsysteminfo called sysinfo-

Just realized I needed to add that I am not using proprietary drivers.
ATi Radeon HD 5750, using identical Dell S2440L monitors using identical
HDMI cables. I tried to use the proprietary drivers but the problem
remained, although with some improvement.

I work with a Lenovo ThinkStation E32 with a Lenovo Monitor ThinkVision
LT2252P(1680x1050)

However in newer kernels this setting is default, so dpm is enabled by default.
Nevertheless tested latest kernel v4.3 with parameter radeon.dpm=0, no
