ah, just deleted the ubuntu-phablet-stream-volumes.tdb file and rebooted
the mx4 - sound is back - great, thanks for the suggestion.
Volume (in System Settings | Sound) never made a difference when I tried
to adjust before.

I had the same issue.
To fix I did
sudo apt-get purge boinc
sudo apt-get autoremove
rm -r .BOINC
rm -r .BOINC\ Manager
rm BOINC\ Manager-myusernamexyz
I rebooted.
then:
sudo apt-get install boinc-manager
Instead of launching boinc, I launched boincmgr. I think this made a difference.

Running the mainline kernel builds, I'm seeing high load averages for my
Intel Mobile processor. When I revert back to the 4.2 kernel, the load
goes back down. (Reason for using the 4.5 kernel is because the Intel
i915 Graphics driver crashes/freezes).
