Jason, I checked the sha256 sum of the ISO. It is correct. I also tried
setting nomodeset in the live USB and then booting. It didn't hang then
but nothing really happened, it didn't start the installation. I could
see the screen and move the mouse around but no option to start the
installation.

My computer has multiple Intel NICs, but only 1 connected. I configured
this one to boot from iSCSI. I could install Ubuntu 14.04 on the iSCSI
disk successfully. But after the reboot, the process stopped after
getting IP address of all NICs.

I have tested and can confirm this works without issue in linux-generic-

On a Ubuntu 16.04 server amd64 host, docker does not work inside of a
(lxc or lxd) Ubuntu 14.04 guest.
I tested on both a clean Ubuntu 16.04 install and also one that was
upgraded from Ubuntu 15.10.
My definition of work is having the expected result when running
Your EFI system partition is mounted read only from what it looks like
in these logs.
Is that intentional on your part?
Can you please share your /etc/fstab?
