Hope it helps. Could it be that system monitor is not able to detect a process that is consuming RAM? Perhaps the process is not showing up in system monitor but is actually consuming a lot of RAM? Like the kernel, or systemd or something low level like that? -- You received this bug

I have a little more information which I hope can help to pin down the source of this problem. I turned off 'repeat keys' in the keyboard settings, so that no key repeats when pressed down. This is a nuisance for arrow keys, but is an improvement. I now get single 5's rather than repeated
