Okay, looks like this isn't necessarily just an Ubuntu bug. I've since
had the same problems with running "pcs cluster auth" on RHEL7. It looks
like my test (see above) was using 127.0.0.1 as the ip address which
does work on both Ubuntu and RHEL7.

I can confirm the issue and that both suggestions fix the issue, i.e.
adding "-a" to the egrep options or switching to the internal grep
implementation. I cannot tell if I have changed this in my 14.04 install
before upgrading (if that was possible at all, I cannot remember the GUI

sometimes unity breaks: ALT+F2 shows a broken window, icons don't work.
I have to switch to a new terminal (CTRL,ALT+F1) and try
$ setsid unity
Sometimes it works (unity restarted and everything is fine), sometimes
not.
