I believe this bug is caused by the transition from dh_pysupport to
dh_python2 and the difference in how shared libraries are handled.

yet but on an install of the new linux mint 18 Beta I have upped from

Hi Gunnar,
That makes sense. After filing the bug I then discovered that Empathy is
no longer part of the default installation. So this bug highlights the
slightly bigger issue of that whole section of the documentation being
written from the perspective that Empathy is installed by default.

to 4.4 in order to identify the last good kernel commit, followed
immediately by the first bad one. This will allow for a more expedited

Hi,
I have the same problem. It wasn't there in the beginning (upgrade from
14.04) but started after some days.
Indeed, it seems to be related to display stuff as @martinitram wrote in
comment #1. At least I notice some display flickering within the ~30s
delay.
