I am extremely happy to tell you the manufacturer has solved my problem!
They emailed me to do:
Open terminal
sudo modprobe -r psmouse
sudo modprobe psmouse proto=imps
sudo gedit etc/modprobe.d/options
I found that after the first 2 commands Trackpad starts working. The 3rd
command opens gedit

reset.

sudo pm-suspend --quirk-dpms-on
with some success though, will let you know if it continues to be successful or

I'd like to chip in here. Hardware is Thinkpad X220. Ubuntu 16.10 UEFI
boot. Keyboard works fine when menu is visible, grub just fails to
detect the Shift keys in order to bring up the menu. Esc key works,
though.

Hi,
My Model is 15-ab125ax
I Would like to report that I have same problem as OP (Disk speed,
keyboard, AMDGPU-Pro) and problem with wifi. Ubuntu 16.10 does not boot
("AMD-Vi: Completion loop timed out" followed by kernel panic). I had a
lot of phone and email conversations with HP support and
Cherry-picked in Debian's Vcs-Bzr, will be part of the apparmor
2.10.95-7 upload. Thanks everybody!

one of the errors hit in those reports is "Currently autodetection and
installation of missing fonts is not supported." which is probably due
to a client application trying to install fonts through the packagekit
api which isn't working on Ubuntu
