Fortunately, one can switch to console (Ctl-Alt-F1) and apply code of Pavel's
link (post #51), which is roughly what I did to recover, after trying to
install 'nouveau' driver (installation succeeded via apt but system was looping
on login page).

So, I just upgraded to 17.04 with Xorg 1.19.3 and nvidia 375.xx drivers.
By default, Ubuntu installed a modprobe.d file to set drm modeset = 0
for the nvidia kernel module and that seem to prevent Prime
Synchronization from working.
I tried to change the modeset to 1 so I could finally try the

I had started trying to install ElectricSheep using this command:

@MikeGresens Thanks for updating. According to the Nvidia update note on
381.09, it is suppose to fix the badborder issue. However, the ppa
:graphics-drivers/ppa team has not uploaded it yet. To use it, the
appropriate driver has to be manually downloaded (use the hyperlink
provided in the webpage

In the meantime, is there any particular reason Ubuntu kernels need to
be shipping with pinctrl-amd built-in?
If not, I suggest building it as a module from now on, so that users
affected by this issue don't have to resort to custom built kernels, but
can instead just blacklist the module.
