Alright so 4.14.4 and .11 actually resulted in worse behaviour from the
touch pad, and even some system wide instability. I'm back to 4.15-rc6

Same here after doing an apt-get upgrade this afternoon.
Seems that it updated some gl/mesa related packages, so I guess they may be the
cause. From the apt logs:
