Will anyone ever tell me what to look for when the problem occurs?
I did a fresh reinstall of the whole 18.04 system from scratch, but the
problem is still there.

There is a test build in [1] that I'd ask you to try before going
forward.
It would also be great if you could assist by providing short steps to
reproduce that we could use as test verification of the issue under the
terms of [2], to fill the test section for the SRU template here.
