This is a bug. RFC1035 describes how long a hostname must be, and httpd
was not honouring the RFC. This doesn't implement "longer hostnames",
this implements RFC compliant hostnames.

I got the same error in Ubuntu 18.04 updated from Ubuntu 16.04.
I tried:
sudo systemctl restart snapd.service
And I got:
Job for snapd.service failed because the control process exited with error

After installing Ubuntu version 18.04, I tried to install virtualbox,
virtualbox-dkms, virtualbox-ext-pack and virtualbox-guest-additions-iso
using Synaptic. All were successful except virtualbox-ext-pack. I then
copied a VM previously used under Ubuntu 16.04 and ran it.

package virtualbox-ext-pack 5.2.10-3ubuntu18.04.1 failed to
install/upgrade: new
Custom media keys shortcuts will not work without re-login on 18.04. I
believe it's a regression from g-s-d. However if you enable commands
from ccsm, those will work automatically.

It's not clear to me what is going on in the ubuntu-make autopkgtest for
artful/s390x but the failure isn't related to my SRU. From the log:

update-manager crashed with Depends in
_show_transaction(): zlib1g (>= 1:1.1.4) but
I'm not very keen on this from an SRU perspective. RFC or not, it's
really a feature addition (the support for longer hostnames for
BalancerMember) and the patch implements it as such (across nine source
files). This makes the patch difficult to review comprehensively.
