I have the same issue with Linux Mint 19 (Ubuntu 18.04 based) using
kernel 4.15 but for QCA9377 chipset.
I compiled the 4.18 kernel using `make localmodconfig` and have the same
problem.
I had sources for kernel version 4.9.24 and it exhibits the same behavior

i tried several suggested workarounds or options but they didn't help.
1) Restarting unity-settings-daemon as suggested in #15 and other posts makes
things unusable: all shortcuts and even my trackpad stop working completely.
Only a logout helps in that case.

This issue was actually fixed in AppStream ages ago - definitely
resolved in Bionic+.

Anybody still thinking about this? The current applet is almost useless
in setups which check the mailstate in very long intervalls only. Yes,
there are sometimes good reasons to do so.
Even better if there was a way to trigger a re-check from the shell, so
one could call some user provided script
Sorry, checking the source code I found that my suggestion is already
implemented:
SIGUSR2 forces a check immediately, you can use the command
pkill -SIGUSR2 -f libmailwatch
It just seems to be not documented anywhere outside the code?

Public bug reported:
I used brasero to make an iso image of a DVD that I personally own
myself (original, no copy) and if I try to open the iso in totem it
fails to open the main menu. Nothing happens. If I open the same iso
image with VLC it shows the main menu just fine and plays the movie.
