I faced this problem on two different machines (both lightdm + plasma
desktop, on both I happily used this combination on Ubuntu 16.04 but
once I upgraded to 18.04, or soon afterwards, I lost all my groups).
Switched to sddm on both, it helped. So mayhaps lightdm should be
dropped or downgraded,
Try checking the "Show Any" option in the "View" menu.

it failed to install GRUB in any /dev/sda and /dev/sdb option. I really

After a fresh install of Ubuntu 18.04.1, on its first boot, the computer
hung at a purple screen. No login prompt was ever displayed. After
holding the power button, the computer boot into Ubuntu without
difficulty. I applied the workaround described in bug 1727356,

I think this bug still occurs, at least on Debian testing (buster) with sddm
0.18.

I can enter my email address and password abd select "I have an Ubuntu
Single Sign-On account". But there is no "Save" or "Login" or any other
button. I can only close the window.

I can no longer reproduce this with newer Xubuntu Bionic Daily images,
the guest is booting normally with 4.15.0-43.

Running 18.04 off a boot usb stick works flawlessly, however after a
clean install the login screen is very laggy and once I enter my
password the screen resolution is all messed up and unreadable.
If I reboot and hold down shift to get the Grub menu and choose Advanced
then
I have no idea how that connection happened. Seems like something
automatic in Launchpad? I've dropped the linkage on the scantool side
now. Weird!
