as well as virt-manager and qemu-system. I installed a bionic desktop VM and

The system deadlocks after the login screen and the only way to get it
back it so REISUB.
Doing this however, restores the deafult desktop and removes my previous
toolbars.
The only solution to this is to restore the .config folder from a
backup.

It sounds like a BIOS bug and your logs show you are using version:
BIOS F.40 05/17/2018
which is now out of date. To try and fix this you will need to reinstall
Windows (sorry), and then install the new BIOS version F.52 from:
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp95001-95500/sp95307.exe
I booted the x86 machine [dx6120] that has 18.10 installed, and same

I looked at unsupported packages; many are wallpapers (I add every prior

As an addendum, poking around some more I downloaded the test file, and
noticed it contains a mixture of unix and dos style line encodings:
$ file example.html

CRLF, LF line terminators
Maybe irrelevant, but
I don't know Ruby very well, but I've narrowed it down to a specific
line within the patch. The original code had:

encrypted home-directory is not unmounted on logout
For both Bionic and Disco, installed the proposed version in a fully
upgraded Lubuntu and used the mini.iso to create a USB. Worked like a
charm, all the way through the process. FWIW, Bionic is LXDE/mostly GTK
so normally it wouldn't use this.
