What's the problem with calling "python" (without version number)?
If there's no version number, it's supposed to be the system's preferred
version of python (which might well be python3).

I've validated the -proposed kernels for Xenial (4.4.0-158), Bionic (4.15.0-56)
and Disco (5.0.0-22), using the test case mentioned in the description. All
working fine, the issue is gone.
Also, the patch was released upstream in the 5.3.x series, so I'll mark
ff-series as Released.
