I tested also with the current daily Lubuntu Groovy iso file (dated

I have tested the current daily (2020-10-10) Xubuntu and Lubuntu iso
files too. When cloned to a USB drive, they can also boot the Lenovo
V130 in UEFI mode (and secure boot). It seems that bug #1895329 is
squashed too.

Anthony, the problem you now describe is very different from that which
you initially reported which is probably why the bug report was moved
from vlc to the Ubuntu project in general on 22nd April.
Is the shutdown problem reproducible on both the desktop and laptop or
just the issues with vlc?
Thanks James. My configuration is different: the laptops in question are
in mechanical docks. The laptop remains closed (lid down); external
display is connected to the dock via HDMI, external keyboard and mouse
are also connected to the dock via USB dongle in the dock. So I can't
start them and

With nvidia graphics drivers the screen/cursor freezes. Unfortunately, I
am not able to recover at all, unable to ssh and forced to poweroff and
power on. This happens at least once per day.
This has happened when coming back, and notably when
youtube/twitch/chromium
