All, I had same issue and on my Mac following worked for me.
1) make sure "DEFAULT_TIMEOUT_STYLE=hidden" is either commented out or has
'menu' as value, in /etc/default/grub.
2) copy grubx64.efi to shimx64.efi in /boot/efi/EFI/ubuntu/

Google docs "Voice typing" constantly opens and closes the access to the
microphone while other websites (like `https://www.onlinemictest.com/`)
work normally.
When looking at the sound settings while activating voice typing, I can see

because there will be no additional package updates that don't contain

written to thumb-drive using `gnome disks`
First boot works on
- hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290)
But subsequent reboots, even off & back on fail on same box and another box
- hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290)
- hp dc7900 (c2d-e8400,
Also seems to effect Dell Latitude E6400 with C2D CPU's and an E6510
with i7 M620 CPU laptops using 20201015 Ubuntu image created with
Startup Disk Creator in 20.04. The same USB with the same image works OK
in my old Intel Desktop so I'm reasonably certain it's hardware
specific.

After pressing power button (and after upgrade to focal), PC starts up normally.
After I enter authentication, though, it shuts down, apparently into sleep
mode/suspend/hibernate.
Pressing powerbutton again brings up normal desktop and normal use right away.
