I've done some debugging.
The problem is:
in line 11 of /etc/apparmor.d/usr.lib.snapd.snap-confine.real is a
#include "/var/lib/snapd/apparmor/snap-confine"
which does not exist at this time. Therefore, the boot process fails.
Reason: the ZFS installer creates a zfs for /var/lib, but this

extensions get turned off spontaneously when I log out and log back in

I have two machines with Jammy on them and this is happening reliably on
one but not the other.
On the one where it's happening, it happens even immediately after I've
updated all out-of-date packages and rebooted the machine.
I don't know why it's not generating a crash report. :-(
